What Our Reviews Cover

Every review on this site follows the same structure so you can compare tools without hunting for the same information in different places. We open with an overall score and a short tagline capturing what the tool does best, then break the review into capabilities, quality of output, ease of use, and price & limits — matching the exact criteria used to calculate the rating page score. Pros and cons are listed separately from the prose so you can scan them quickly before deciding whether to read the full write-up.

Capabilities and Quality Come First

We lead with capabilities and quality of output in every review because they matter most and because they are the two criteria that actually determine whether a tool is worth using at all. Ease of use and pricing sections follow, and while we test all of them hands-on, we are explicit in the text when something is a matter of taste, like interface design, versus something more objective, like output accuracy or generation speed.

How We Decide What Gets a Full Review

Not every tool we try gets a full review page. A tool needs to be actively maintained, meaning regular updates and a real support channel, and needs to clear a baseline usefulness bar in our own hands-on testing before we commit the multi-week testing period a full review requires. Tools that do not meet that bar do not appear on the site at all, since we would rather be selective than pad the rating table with a tool we cannot fully stand behind.

Reading a Review Alongside the Rating Table

A review's score should match what you see in the rating table, since both come from the same underlying testing, updated at the same time. If you are comparing two tools that scored within a few tenths of each other, the review text is more useful than the number itself, since that is where a specific strength or weakness, like a narrower context window or an unusually strong API, gets explained rather than averaged away into a single figure.

Why We Name a Reviewer on Every Page

Each review is credited to a specific person on our team, linked from an author page describing their background and area of focus. We do this because accountability matters: if a review turns out to be wrong or outdated, you should be able to see who wrote it, not just trust an anonymous byline. It also means the person revisiting a tool for an update usually already understands its history and previous weaknesses.

What to Do If a Review Looks Outdated

AI tools change pricing and features faster than almost any review schedule can perfectly track. If you notice a review citing a price, limit, or feature that no longer matches what a vendor currently offers, our Contact page is the fastest way to flag it, and corrections are usually the quickest category of request for us to verify and fix.

What We Look for Beyond the Numbers

A strong capability score is table stakes at this point for any tool that makes it onto this site, so a review's real value is usually in the details a score alone cannot capture. That includes how aggressively a tool nags you to upgrade, whether cancelling a subscription is actually straightforward, and how clearly a vendor discloses what happens to the data and prompts you feed it. We call these out specifically in the review text rather than folding them into a single number, since they matter differently depending on how privacy-conscious you are.
